Curiosity and open-loop hooks
Curiosity hooks open a question the viewer wants answered and only close it later in the post, which keeps people watching past the first few seconds as long as the answer is worth the wait.

Fill in the brackets with something specific to your post. Every hook here is a pattern, not a line to copy word for word: the specific detail you add is what makes it stop the scroll.
Open a loop
I did not expect [thing] to [surprising result].
Example: I did not expect a 5 dollar tool to fix my posture.
Nobody talks about this part of [topic].
Example: Nobody talks about this part of moving abroad.
The [thing] that changed how I [activity].
Example: The one setting that changed how I edit every photo.
Wait until you see what [thing] does.
Example: Wait until you see what lemon juice does to this pan.
I found out why [puzzling thing].
Example: I found out why airline seats are always cold.
There is a reason [common thing] [behaves that way].
Example: There is a reason restaurant fries taste better than yours.
This is the [thing] I wish I knew [time] ago.
Example: This is the money rule I wish I knew five years ago.
Three things about [topic], and the last one surprised me.
Example: Three things about running a café, and the last one surprised me.
What [group] will not tell you about [topic].
Example: What realtors will not tell you about open houses.
I asked [number/person] about [thing]. The answer was not what I thought.
Example: I asked 20 chefs how they cook rice. The answer was not what I thought.
Close the loop. If the payoff is weak, the open loop costs you more trust than it buys in watch time.
