Making content

Content calendar

A content calendar is a plan of what a creator or brand will publish, on which platform, and when, usually covering the next few weeks.

Also called editorial calendar, posting schedule.

Its main job is to separate deciding what to make from making it. Deciding in advance means each day starts with a known piece of work rather than a blank page, and it is where content pillars turn into a balanced mix rather than whatever was easiest that week.

For a creator with brand deals, the calendar is also where sponsored posts are placed, so that agreed go-live dates are met and a run of sponsored content does not crowd out the organic posts the audience followed for.
