Creator economy

The creator economy is the set of businesses and income streams built around independent creators who publish directly to an audience, including brand sponsorships, platform payouts, subscriptions, affiliate revenue, and their own products.

Also called passion economy.

The phrase describes a shift in who owns the audience relationship. A creator with a direct following can earn from several sources at once, which is why most full-time creators treat brand deals as one line of revenue rather than the whole business.

For a brand, the practical consequence is that creators behave like small businesses. They have rates, contracts, other clients, and a reputation to protect, and they will decline work that damages it.
